I Watched You

by Emily

I read a poem today,
Written to her mom with blazing red hair.
It made me realize what I have failed to do.
I never let my mom know how much I care.

Mom
I've never written you a poem nor a song,
I thought you already knew.
I love you mom,
It's unconditional.

I watched you,
To see the woman I would become.
I thought I'd just grow up and be you.
Didn't know about all those feathers in your cap,
That each one held a separate meaning, another pain
until I got my cap.

Yeah, I watched you, still do.
We're older now,
Way past our prime.
We have great grand kids,
You and I.

I'm still watching you,
I see you
In me.
